How To Style A Christmas Dining Room

Updated: Feb 10, 2023

When it comes to decorating your buffet for Christmas in your dining room. Here are a few ways you can do it!

Start With The Large Pieces

If you start with the large pieces they can be the anchor that makes everything go together in your buffet.

I love large silver platters!

I have a large buffet that has lots of room in it! I have tall shelves, so displaying my silver platters in one of my favorite ways to show them off!

I usually always have them on display in my buffet so adding some Christmas elements in front of them changed up the look enough that it gave it a whole new look!

Show Off Your Collections

I have a small collection of thermoses!

I kept my silver platters in the buffet, so incorporating my silver thermos, my red thermos and my vintage Stanley Thermos was a perfect way to show off my collection.

I placed them on a complimentary tray where I could add a tall silver pedestal dish. I added some small desert plates with a vintage toothpick holder Santa from my Grandma's collection.

Add Height

Always add some height to your display!

I had a tall clear glass cylinder vase that I filled with red glittered Christmas balls and it really complimented the shelf! I had a collection of silver dishes on one side and a thermos collection on the other end, so having something in the center to break it up made for a good transition.

Something as simple as an empty vase and adding Christmas balls is not too fancy, but the glitter makes the texture change up a bit and the color just makes it fun!

Always Show Off Your Favorite Things

One of my very favorite things are these Fiesta Dishes!

I remember as a kid going withy my grandma to garage sales and we were always on the look out for Fiesta Dishes! But her favorite place to find a Fiesta Dish treasure was auctions!

She was an auction expert! I would love to go and watch her! She never acted interested in the Fiesta Dishes! She would look at all the other stuff around the Fiesta dishes so she didn't look like she was interested. But she could tell which ones were cracked. Which ones were chipped. And if there was any doubt she would very discreetly look underneath the dish to verify it had the Fiesta name on the bottom.

The bidding would start on those dishes and she would just scan the room, never being the first one to bid on those dishes. She would see who her competition was! She would see who she was up against! Then right when you think the auctioneer is getting ready to sell those dishes to someone, my grandma would raise her hand and she was IN!

There would be no more raising her hand, she was eye to eye with the auctioneer. She would give a nod or she might look away, but he kept his eye on her, waiting for her next move! Would she keep bidding, would she let this set of Fiesta go. Most of the time, we left with those pieces of Fiesta she wanted! She was good!

My Grandma had given me a few pieces of her Fiesta before she passed away. But after she passed away my aunts were so generous and gave me several more pieces for my collection. I will always treasure these dishes! Not because they have the name Fiesta on them, but because they remind me of my grandma!

So to show them off for Christmas, I picked out all the green dishes and stacked them on cake stands.

I loved showing them off in my buffet this Christmas!

Just Add Garland

If you can't think of anything else to do with your special dishes, your thermos collection or your favorite large silver platters, then just add garland!

This garland came with all the Christmas balls and pinecones already attached to the garland. it had some pieces of pine also that just had a hint of glitter on them. It was a beautiful garland! I was worried that it might need lights, but it didn't! It was pretty by itself!
